2020 has felt like a chaotic and violent transition, especially for Black Americans. I wanted the serene stillness of my sculpture “Water” to remind us that there is always a peace and calm that can be found in every rebirth. My aim was to give her the appearance of emerging from still waters to symbolize its powers of purification, rebirth and cleansing.
