THE BOOK OF AKRON 3:30
The Book of Akron 3:30 is my Solo Exhibition which I created during my art residency at Akron Soul Train which debuted September 2023. For this body of work I first wrote 16 fictional short stories that reframed Biblical tales within modern-day (mostly non-religious) plots set within my home town Akron, Ohio. I then imagined scenes from these stories and depicted them within 16 large acrylic paintings. Both the stories and paintings were displayed together. My goal was to encourage the viewer to reflect on their own moral compass and to challenge the popular belief that Biblical messaging is no longer relevant in our contemporary world. Using written & visual storytelling falls within many traditional themes of religious Western art as well as connects them to more modern ways of conveying messages through memes, gestures & symbols.
